Fender 'Pro Feel' Jazz, walnut gloss, made in Japan 1989-90. This is a very enjoyable J. The late 80s was a crazy time in the land of guitars, and Fender was in the biz of 'modernising' some classic designs to suit then-current tastes, especially in Japan. The Pro Feel series were high end offerings for the local Japan market, with sleek styling and some fancy specs. This has a graphite reinforced neck with twenty two bigger frets and a modern 10" radius, similar in profile to the '75 reissue Jazz also in the lineup at the time. You also get an ash body, which has a bit more growl and presence than alder. The pickups are overwound for more output and low end, plus there's a super handy active preamp with a pickup balancer and bass and treble boost/cut knobs. The ash body and high mass bridge offer a whole heap of natural snap, definition and attack to the mix already, so adding in some extra thump via the pre-amp allows for some extremely snappy, hard hitting notes. The walnut finish shows off some juicy grain in the ash body; it' very classy. This will compete very nicely with a lot of Fender's USA made takes on the upmarket Jazz genre, it really was ahead of it's time. Such pro, many feel!
