Fender Japan Standard Jazz Bass, shell pink, made in Japan 1996-7. It's pink, so we all want it, right? The Japan Standard series are great instruments. This is a trimmed down take on the classic '62 Jazz, but with a couple of minor differences: a satin finish neck, 90s style logos, a single-slot bridge and a single-ply guard. The neck is really great: it's slim, quick and comfy and made from some streaky dark rosewood and tightly grained maple. We replaced some pots and a cap on arrival, which helped the already-excellent tone along: it sounds really convincing. It's got a fast attack with a rounded, punchy low end, paired with a smooth midrange and a nice little hint of sweetness and sizzle on the top end. The finish has taken a few knocks and faded a fair bit in the last few decades, but heck... it looks all the better for it. Shell pink stuff seldom lasts long around here so don't dither about too much.

The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and rub wear on the back only. The back has widespread surface scratches and dimples around the whole body, nothing too nasty though. The sides have a few thing to note: dimples on the top horn, some dents and dimples in the elbow area, a decent bald patch and some dimples and scuffs near the jack and some minor chips and scuffs on the bottom horn. The front has some dimples near the knobs, some chips and scuffs behind the bridge and along the back edge, some rub wear near the pickups, dimples in the elbow area and some standard play scuffs on the guard and horn. Overall: good condition (7/10).
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. The frets have minor wear but are pretty even, 7/10 for fret life. All electrics tested and working properly. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners Strings.
