Fender Japan Standard Strat, one humbucker version, vintage white, made in Japan 2009-10. The J-Craft Standard series guitars were made in form or another since the late 80s, offering simple but nicely thought out takes on the Strat, Tele and bass models. For five minutes there in 2009-10, Fender Japan did a catalog model with one humbucker in the bridge, a single volume control and a big headstock... here's proof, friends and lovers! The thing that made these Japan Standards good was always tidy wood and finish work and a great neck, and this is no exception. The neck feels fantastic: it's super tightly grained maple, carved to a slim C with a 10" radius, finished in slick satin... it's just right somehow. Folks will sometimes insist that single pickup guitars sound better, less magnetic pull on the strings or less signal loss from components etc, and frankly I'm suspicious there's no science behind the claims. But... this sounds extremely convincing, so maybe there is something to it, who can say? It's fat and punchy on the low end, with a snarly, aggressive midrange and some slice on the top for good measure. It's absolutely perfect for punk: palm mute into your dirty amp with this and you'll die happy. It does look a bit like the recent Tom Delonge model... but, cooler, and better made (I'd wager). I've got one and one only, folks, so you've got one shot.
