Fender Japan Standard Tele, sunburst, 2010-11. The Japan Standard series ran for several decades and sold exclusively on the domestic Japan market. It's similar to the 1962 reissue model Teles, but with a more modern 9.5" radius, the 90s era decal, a top loader bridge, single ply guard and an option for rosewood or maple on the board. This is an unassuming guitar, but heck, the woodwork is terrific. The neck is straight and stable, carved to a comfy slim C and finished in thin slick satin for a smooth feel. The body is resonant and fairly lightweight, it has a certain integrity in the hands that translates to an engaging playing experience. The tone is lively and responsive, with a shimmering top end and a rich warm midrange. You can't go too wrong here, this is exactly what a Tele should be: simple and effective.
