Fernandes FST-50, creamy white, made in Japan circa 1978. Fernandes launched in 1969, initially offering flamenco style acoustic guitars, before expanding into electric guitars in the early 70s. They would go on to become one of the biggest guitar brands in Japan to this day. These 'stone logo' examples from the late 70s are probably their most sought after guitars; they were really getting things right when this beauty was made. It feels great in the hands: the body is loud and resonant and the neck is awesome. The neck is a slim C style shape, rounded and comfy, with a pleasing dark rosewood board and a tight and tidy piece of maple on the back; it just feels right. The tone on offer is bright and charismatic, with a sparkly top end and plenty of girth through the mids. I really like it for rhythm stuff especially, it has an agreeable balance to it for big boisterous chords. The faded white finish and big headstock add a certain swagger to the looks. Works for me!
