(ARCHIVE) Gibson 120th Anniversary SG Standard Walnut 2014

Gibson SG Standard, walnut, made in USA 2014. Walnut is a fun colour for an SG: it's not quite cherry, but is close enough to look classic and different enough to be a bit classy. This was made in 2014 and bears the 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret, which is pretty subtle from a few feet away but makes for a nice touch viewed up close. The neck is on the fat side, with a generous taper and plenty of girth in the back, but still balances nicely against the lightweight body. Tone-wise, this does what you hope: it's dark and dirty, with a voluptuous low end warble on the neck pickup and a thick, creamy growl on the bridge. It's a simple and satisfying guitar, and certainly dashing enough to raise some pulses. I give it 120 points.
