Gibson Firebird Studio 70s Tribute Satin Ebony 2012
Gibson Firebird Studio, black, made in USA 2012. What a bird! We've had a bunch of Firebirds through the store, but generally they've been the far pricier Firebird V models, so it's cool to score one that's a bit more accessible for us mere mortals. This example dates to 2012, when Gibson were doing a bunch of affordable models under the Tribute series. You get the cool body shape, but with a sensible set of tuners, a simpler set-neck build and a cool matte black nitro finish. The finish has worn around the edges with play, and looks all the better for it. Mini Humbuckers always sound good, and this is no exception: it's got a girthy growl with a piquant top end snap, and it loves a decent dose of distortion. Bird is the word!
