Gibson ES-335, black, made in USA 2018. Boy oh boy, what a good looking machine this is. The 335 is a classic shape, and when you add in the small block inlays, cream binding and a gorgeous coat of black, it looks unreasonably stunning. Gibson's Memphis plant is closed now, but for many years, most of their hollow and semi-hollow electric guitars were made there. The general standard out of the Memphis plant was very good, and this is very nicely made. The finish is bang-on, the frets are great, the binding is great... it's very nicely done. The neck is a comfy C shape, neither super fat nor particularly skinny, and it sits very comfortably in the hand. The pickups are Gibson's 'Memphis Historic Spec' humbuckers, which are a vintage-voiced offering. The neck pickup is gooey and rich, with plenty of low-end presence and roundness, and it's gorgeous for cleans or bluesy overdriven tones. The bridge pickup is markedly more aggressive, with a pronounced midrange and plenty of shimmer on the top end; it's very much at home kicking your dirty amp into gear with singing sustain and huge harmonics. This is perfect stage guitar, but it's a pretty lovely thing to have around the house too. I give it 335/335.
