Gibson SG Deluxe, charcoal glass glitter, made in USA 1999. This here disco ball represents quite the tail of redemption. The SG Deluxe in this form was made from 1998-99, sporting a trio off cool Firebird-style mini humbuckers with a 6-way rotary switch, a version of the Maestro tremolo and a tasty ebony fretboard. It's an unusual model, so I was pleased to score one from a private seller in Japan. In a rare stroke of misfortune, this one copped some significant trauma in transit, and arrived with a break at both the headstock and body ends of the neck. It's been in repair-purgatory for well over six months, but it's finally out of hospital and up for a good time. Our local finishes specialist, Wellwood Guitars, did a very tidy and effective glue-and-clamp repair, and once the guitar was structurally sound once more, set about doing a cool refinish, as Gibson's factory black nitro can look a little rough following repairs. I'm always looking for an opportunity to refinish a guitar in wild glitter, and this one has come up looking superb. The finish is a charcoal glass glitter, a little darker than a standard silver, sprayed over a gloss black and topped with clear gloss nitro. it catches the light beautifully and pairs perfectly with the ebony board, block inlays, aged pearl guard and smoky chrome pickup covers. The neck is in great functional shape now too, with a working truss rod, strong joins and tidy fretwork. It's a comfy slim shape and balances well against the body with no neck dive, so it feels very agreeable. The pickups sounds great: a little more angular and breathy than a regular humbucker, but fatter with more midrange punch than a P90. It's got a pleasing percussive growl that lends definition and fullness to lead lines and juicy chords alike. This is priced with it's repaired condition in mind, so I feel it's both excellent value and exceptionally cool. You've got one shot at this one, don't miss!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has been refinished, but some of the original dents and marks remain, so there's marks on the end and some clouding on the front around the logo, which has also been replaced. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, you can see the headstock end repair on the bass side of the fretboard, as well as some minor dimples on the back from play. The neck has a repaired break at the body end but that's not really visible under the guard and new finish as it stands. The back has few visible marks, just a few dimples along the back edge. The sides have a couple of dimples near the knobs. The front has no major marks, just some play wear on the guard. Overall: very good condition (8/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good. The frets have minor wear butt have been recently tidied up, /10 for fret life left. All electronics tested and working properly. Note the repaired breaks above. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
