Godin LGX, lightburst flame finish, made in Quebec Canada 1998. Godin have long been serial innovators in the guitar universe, offering a whole stack of interesting guitars with fun features that deviate from the standard 50s-style stuff we see everywhere, all executed with precision and panache from their home on the east side of Canada. The LGX series debuted in 1996, offering a couple of different takes on the 'Dual Voice' electric guitar. One model had built in synth/MIDI capabilities, and the other one, this one, has a piezo pickup and preamp on deck. You get three outputs (yep): piezo only, humbuckers only, or both together on a blend with a toggle switch. The humbuckers are a tasty set of Seymour's finest Duncan Customs, so they're a well balanced alnico-II magnet with a clear, full voice and great balance across the strings. The five way switch for a bunch of tones including a neck single coil, Tele-middle style and a honky out-of-phase option, as well as the standard neck or bridge pickup in full voice. The LR Baggs piezo pickup is fun too: it sounds kinda like a steel string flat top, but is closer to the warm, woody ping of an archtop/jazzbox style guitar. Blending the two voices is awesome, offering a sweet balance of eloquent detail and wide, gooey body. It's especially nice for dense jazz chord voicings, it really excels in that area. The woodwork is also great: gorgeous rich red mahogany for the back and neck, and that flame top... yum. This is a really beautiful instrument that will surely open up some fun tonal possibilities to the discerning player.
