Grandy GLS-65 Love Rock, cherry sunburst, made in Japan 1985. We've had some weirdly branded guitars through the shop before, and while this isn't as oddball as a Brian or a Camel, it's certainly an unusual item. I can't 100% verify all this, but here's what I can ascertain: Tokai was going through a company restructure in the mid 80s owing to a brush with bankruptcy, and in 1985 they were producing some guitars under the Grandy brand name as a legal work-around. They were only made in 1985, it was all over by '86. The build quality is amazing: the mahogany body has some gorgeous ribbon grain and that book-matched flame is delightful, and the fit and finish work is very tidy indeed. Between the sub-4kg weight, slim comfy round neck and exemplary natural resonance, you get a very enjoyable playing experience. The tone is great too: bell-like and full on the neck, with rounded lows and plenty of weight; rich and expansive on the bridge pickup with a bubbly, chewy midrange. The cherry sunburst is still super vibrant too, it looks fantastic. Grandy as heck.

The headstock has some minor chips on the end, a sticker mark on the back, light scuffs around the posts on the front and some dimples on the top and bottom edges. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has some chips on the top edge in the elbow area and bottom edge below cavity cover, as well as a dent near the rear strap pin and widespread scuffs and surface scratches around the whole body, concentrated in the middle. The sides have some light scuffs on the top horn, some decent chips and a few dimples in the elbow area, a respectable dent and some scratches near the jack and some light scuffs on the bottom horn. The front has a dent on the bottom horn, some dimples in the tailpiece and some scuffs around the elbow area, as well as some standard play wear on the horns. Note the guard is missing. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have a bit of normal wear, they're in decent shape, 7/10 for fret life left. No headstock breaks. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.
