Greco EG500, cherry burst, made in Japan 1978. Check out that flame! The top on this is a seriously outrageous piece of maple; no tricks here, just awesome timber. The cherry burst finish lets the grain do the talking; there's a few marks around the place to reassure you this is no wallflower, but oh boy, it's extremely pretty. These older Grecos were all made by hand to an extremely high standard, so this feels superb in the hands. The slim neck is very friendly; combined with the fairly light body this pops beautifully in the hands. Tone-wise, the Maxon PAF-voiced humbuckers deliver a heap of creamy midrange and snappy treble; there's a nice balance of warm natural compression and articulate openness. There's a lot to love here; these MIJ 'lawsuit' era LPs surely have a lot to give.

The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, few little dimples on the back only. The back has some widespread light scuffs and surface scratches, no major marks. The sides have a few marks: two small chips and some dimples on the top horn, a couple of long scratches and some little chips on the shoulder, a couple of small chips near the rear strap pin, a few scuffs, dents and chips near the jack, dimples on the bottom horn. The front is pretty clean; just some dimples and scratches around the outside edge and behind the bridge and some play scratches on the guard and top horn. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear but no major buzz issues, 6.5/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 10/52 Moonshiners strings.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
