Greco GE-2 Red Burst 1966
Greco GE-2, red burst, made in Japan circa 1966. This is just about as early in the piece as you can get with Greco guitars, and heck: how cool!? The GE-2 model pops up in the 1966 catalog, only to be gone by 1970. The recipe is pretty wild: super kooky headstock, short scale neck, german carve, heaps of chrome, vintage tremolo bridge, built in mute, rhythm circuit... it's got a real 60s sci-fi-surf vibe to it. The hardware is wacky, but surprisingly solid; it holds tune pretty well. The pickups sound awesome: thick and twangy, heaps of airy midrange clarity, naturally short thumpy sustain. There's a lot to enjoy here, it's a super quirky partystarter.
