Gretsch 6128-1957 Duo Jet, black, made in Japan in 2001. This really does look a million bucks, it's supremely slick. The arched maple top and ultra-high-gloss black finish really radiate class, and the always-cool Bigsby tremolo and chrome hardware really complete the picture. These pre-Fender, Terada factory Gretsch models are beautifully built; this one is all class in the hands. The neck is round and moderate in profile, it's balanced perfectly against the chambered body and all just makes sense when you pick it up. The Dynasonics really sound great: heaps of juicy thick low end and a punchy warm attack, heaps of sensitivity to differing attack, open and bright through the top end, low on noise... excellent. It's kinda like a tasty halfway between a fat 50s style Tele and an Lp with P90s... yep, that'll work. These were easier to get a couple of years ago, but increasingly, they're scarce on the ground, especially from this era and in this condition. Do yourself a favour!
