Ibanez 540R Radius Black 1989
Ibanez 540R Radius, black, made in Japan 1989. The 540R was part of the Roadstar Pro series, and was made from 1987-94 at the excellent Fujigen factory. The model became the basis for the later Joe Satriani signature guitar, which borrowed most of the curves and hardware, although does have a different neck profile. This one dates to 1989 and has aged pretty gracefully: a couple of knocks and scuffs, but really it's in great shape overall. The neck is a quick, slim D shape, although it's not quite as agressively square and flat as later RG models; it feels great in the hand. The pickups are passive and nicely voiced, with a sparkling clarity and fast attack from the single coils and a juicy, wide, warm growl from the humbucker. The Floyd is in good order and holds tune like a champ. This is heaps of guitar for the dime and a cool piece of shred history.
