Ibanez Musician Bass MC924 Dark Stain 1981
Ibanez MC924 Musician Bass, made in Japan 1981, dark stain finish. The Musician is an 80s icon, finding fame with esteemed players like John Entwhistle, Sting and Adam Clayton, among many others. This model, the MC924, is the most iconic version of the bass, with the signature neck-through build, ebony board, abalone inlays and the Super-4 soapbar pickups. This example presents beautifully: despite being well over forty years old, it's in remarkable condition. The signature dark stain finish looks slick and classy, and looks even better from the back with that fancy five-ply neck on show. The neck feels excellent: sturdy and straight, comfy moderate rounded shape, luxurious ebony board under the fingers, easy access to the top frets... life is good. There's a natural sustain and evenness on offer that allows you to inject each note and line with as much nuance as you please, such is the joy of playing a truly responsive instrument. The electronics are good too: you can dial in plenty of different sounds, from snarly funk slap tones, to a mellow warm warble for jazz or folk or aggressive, fat rock sounds. I've watched these iconic early Ibanez models go up in price notably over the last few years, and I'd willingly wager they're going to rise further: this is really good, and word generally gets out eventually. I'd endorse buying this Musician as a much better life choice than dating a regular musician.
