Jayro JRB-600 in midnight blue, recently made in Korea. This is a take on the classic Rickenbacker 4001 bass made by Jayro, one of the Deviser family of brands. Jayro, like the Deviser, Bacchus and Momose brands, do well in Japan but aren't marketed to the outside world at all really; which is a shame as they're very good indeed. This is a brilliantly made instrument; it's very nicely put together and feels very classy in the hands. It's not too heavy, which is nice for this body shape, and the neck is very agreeable and the bass is well balanced in the hands. The body is made of mahogany, a departure from the standard maple, which adds a little bit of warmth and roundness to the tone. The pickups are hot in output and creamy in tone, there's a stack of thump and punch on offer; it's a very fat, fun bass to play. The blue finish is sleek and will surely find favour on stage; it's a nice change from the standard black/burst etc. Grab a filthy overdrive pedal and unnecessarily large amp and rattle some bones with this raucous partystarter!
