Maton Big Ben Bass, black, made in Australia 1963. There's some pretty wild Maton models from the midcentury era, and like many of the others, the Big Ben boasted a cute quirky shape and was only made for a year or two. The shape looks a little like a Batman logo, and paired with the penguin-esque headstock and short scale neck, this is super cute. It's lightweight and responsive too, and with a replaced bridge and tuners, it holds tune nicely too. The electronics have had a full reset: new pickups, new controls, new everything. The hefty passive humbuckers are a departure from the regular single coils from the era, but they sound awesome: warm, growly, full and fat. It's a bit like a more articulate, wider take on the EB-3 type tone. The chances we score another one of these anytime soon is close to zero, so you've probably got one shot. It's priced to reflect the long mods list, so you get a relative bargain too. Big Ben, you beatiful brute.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has has dimples on the end and front and scuffs on the edges and back. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor scuffs and rub wear only. The back has minor dents along the back edge and elbow area, some scratches near the bottom edge and middle of the body and widespread minor scuffs. The sides have minor dimples all over and some scuffs near the jack. The front has scuffs around the bridge and elbow area, a dent on the edge up from the bridge pickup, dimples on the top horn and some play wear on and around the guard.
Overall: very good condition (7.5/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
Fret life: 8/10, minor wear only
