Maton Ukulele, concert size, 2017. This little sweetheart is really quite lovely. Maton have been building world-class instruments from solid Australian tonewoods for many decades, and this is a curious little departure from the standard dreadnought acoustics. It's built from all solid Victorian blackwood; an acacia-family wood that's renowned for it's similarity to Hawaiian koa. The subtle but stunning grain really shows through the satin finish nicely, it's very pretty. It's precisely made and easy to play, everything feels 'right'. The tone is light, airy, bright and loud; it's very sweet and balanced. The basic LR Baggs piezo replicates the acoustic tone nicely too, it's handy to be able to plug-in and serenade the world with ukulele goodness. It's impossible to be depressed while playing ukulele, so imagine the elation of playing a really beautiful one... awesome.
