PRS Mira, very orange, made in USA 2015. Good heavens, what a colour! The S2 series launched in 2013, offering a selection of models made in the iconic Maryland USA facility, but with trimmed down aesthetics to bring them in at a player-friendly dime. It's a thumbs up from me: brilliant build quality, thoughtful design, great sound... but without the flashy flame maple and abalone. This particular example was part of a limited run in this finish for the Japan market: yep, they get the coolest PRS stuff over there too. I couldn't find the official name for finish, but it sure does remind me of a delicious butter chicken... it's a vibrant hue and radiates swagger. The Mira takes a few queues from the Gibson LP Special DC in body shape and hardware, but it's all done with that certain eye for detail typical of PRS stuff: easy access neck joint, comfy body bevels, a great bridge... they thought about everything. The tone on offer is crisp, rounded and immediate, with a self-assured low end balanced by a tuneful and assertive treble. The tone knobs pulls up to offer single coil style tones too, adding a handy extra dimension. The best thing about this is the playability: it's smooth, fast, compact, lightweight and very responsive indeed. Is it the coolest PRS you've ever seen? Surely it's a contender.
