Pearl Forum FZH 725 14x5.5 Poplar Snare Drum
Our thoughts: This is a cheap little snare that punches above its weight. It's 7.5mm 6 ply poplar shell is constructed using Pearl's SST process. Overtones are manageable and it cuts through just fine. No issues with tuning and the snare wires and throw are fully operational. The bearing edges are standard 45s and thus it has a load of attack as you would expect in a modern snare sound.
The verdict: It's cheap and it's perfectly workable. Although you won't find characteristics typical of high end snares in this snare, it doesn't bring unsavory tonalities into the mix. Effectively, it's well-behaved and is definitely the most sensible drum in the Forum series.
