Squier Japan Silver Series Stratocaster SST33 Olympic White 1992
Squier SST33 Silver Series Strat, made in Japan in 1991-2 in olympic white. The Silver Series heralded a return to Japanese manufacturing for Squier, and were very well received at the time owing to the excellent build quality from the legendary Fujigen factory. This has a great neck: slim, straight, smooth... it just feels awesome, plus the board features some tasty streaky grain and a cute little almost face like mark around the second fret. The body is light and resonant, it's super responsive to the lightest note. The tone defies the dollars: heaps of sparkle and definition, thick punchy bass, understated nicely balanced mids... it sounds really saucy and compares very well to guitars 2-3 times the price. The white finish comes around much less often than the black or burst, plus it's got a bunch of light scuffs and some sticker fade marks to add a certain depth and character to it... basically, it radiates streetsmarts and mojo. I reckon these are outstanding Strats, cost aside, so given the dollars involved this is a clever buy. So hey, be clever?
