Squier Silver Series Stratocaster SST33 Sunburst 1993
Squier Silver Series Strat, sunburst, made in Japan 1993-4. Squier launched alongside Fender Japan in 1982, initially made out of the excellent Fujigen Gakki factory. Squier moved their stuff to Korea in the late 80s, which was good for production costs, but the quality did suffer somewhat. In 1992, Squier launched the Silver Series; their highest end offerings, once again made in Japan. It's a simple Strat style guitar, similar to a Fender Japan ST62 model: slim vintage C neck, rosewood board, three ply guard, six point tremolo bridge, three single coils... simple, but effective. The ceramic single coils sound annoyingly good: they're clear and glassy on the top, creamy and snarly through the mids and fast and tight down low. They sound better than plenty of more expensive options around. The finish is a 'clownburst': three tone burst, but solid in the middle. It's a cool look, it has a certain gaudy 60s-ish vibe about it. This is heaps of guitar for not much cash, it's great as-is or surely a dream mod platform. Get yourself Silver lining.
