Teisco WG-2L Sunburst 1964

Teisco WG-2L, sunburst, made in Japan circa 1964. Teisco kicked off around 1948, and by the early 60s they were producing some very unique surf-inspired solid bodies. This one was made around 1964, and it's a good example of the kind of wacky, wobbly wonders they were doing at the time. The body looks like a halfway point between an SG and a Jag, but a little bit cooked. The classic headstock and striped aluminum guard are signature aesthetic touches; it certainly has a recognisable style. The tone on offer is a lot of fun. Separately, the pickups each offer a snappy honk with a pronounced midrange. But, together, they're remarkably hi-fi with a gorgeous shimmery top and a rich complex body. The sustain is pretty short, suitable for punk, grunge or surf stuff... it just works. This one is recently back from our pro luthier with a full re-fret; good sir Billy was kind enough to straighten out the five decades of minor lumps and bumps in the neck and get the thing playing smoothly and evenly, so you won't face the usual playability constraints common to this genre of guitar. It lacks not for personality, that's for sure!
