(SOLD) Edwards E-LW-135M Ikuo Signature 5 String Bass Black 2011
Edwards E-LW-135M, black, made in Japan 2011. Edwards is under the ESP umbrella, mostly offering vintage Fender and Gibson style models to the domestic Japan market, as well as some artist models for noteworthy Japanese players. This here slicker is the signature model for prominent J-rock bass slinger Ikuo, known for his work with Bull Zeichen 88, Cube Ray, Rayflower and more. It's a bit like a G&L L-2000 or a Stingray HH, but has a few unique little touches. First, the electronics: it's got a pair of Seymour's finest big fat passive humbuckers, paired with a fun little three way switch to toggle between series, parallel and split coil tones and bolstered by a two band EQ. It sounds fantastic: fat, thick and fast with a walloping low end and a sweet clarity on top. The fretboard extends up into the body, offering a ramp of sorts for addition finger placement options. The tuners and bridge are really sturdy too, the thing just feels solid and reliable in the hands, and the neck is very agreeable too. This is a super practical bass for punk, metal or funk stuff, but it will happily cover all sorts of other ground too. Tasty stuff.
