Tokai Traditional Series ES-78 Transparent Red 2018
Tokai ES-78, red, made in China 2018. Tokai's Traditional Series instruments were made for many years as affordable takes on some classic designs, all made to a nice standard out of China. They were a very popular option in Japan, as the consistency and value on these is well regarded. This one dates to 2018, but from a few feet away appears almost new. It's got a comfy slim neck, not super skinny, but a comfy 60s style C that sits nicely in the hand. The neck pickup is balanced and smooth, while the bridge pickup has a pronounced midrange kick that will get your amp standing up and paying attention. The classic red finish is nicely executed and leaves the wavy maple grain to do the talking... swish. If you're after a quality semi-hollow but need enough change to go bowling on Friday night, this one is surely the jazz.
