Ludwig Pioneer 14x5 Snare Drum (1960)
Our Thoughts: This Ludwig Pioneer is pre-serial and we've dated it at 1960. The shell construction is 3 ply poplar sandwiched between mahogany with maple reinforcement rings by the bearing edges. This is a vintage beauty with tones so warm you won't need a heater this winter. We've said it before and we'll say it again – new drums just don't sound like this!
These 6 lug models aren't quite as accurate to tune as 8 or 10 lug snares, however, they are quick and easy to tune with shining fundamentals. Ultimately, this guy delivers great Ludwig vintage tones for a low cost.

Shell Construction: 3 ply mahogany-poplar-mahogany, maple reinforcement rings

Condition Notes: No major scratches or dings. Shell is in round. Chrome is in good condition with very minimal traces of rust. Throw-off and internal dampener work fine. The hoop on the batter side isn't flat (see last photo) but this doesn't seem to affect the tuning stability or comfortability in playing. Tunes up easily, no issues with lugs or tension rods. Overall, it is in good condition.
