Valeriano Bernal Clase F, made in Cadiz Spain 1998, natural gloss. Valeriano guitars are handmade in the coastal city of Cadiz, in the Andalusia area of southwest Spain. Cadiz is home to probably the longest and most iconic tradition of building flamenco guitars; it's significant region in the history the guitar as an instrument overall. Valeriano guitars are known for their own distinctive take on the flamenco sound; they've been building guitars by hand for over fifty years and still create gorgeous instruments from their small workshop today. This one is made with classic flamenco all-solid timbers: European cypress back and sides, German spruce top, African ebony fretboard. It's lightweight and lively in the hands, ringing truly at the lightest touch. The tone is crisp, clear and open, with a beautiful balance across the strings and frequencies and a very responsive voice to variations in attack. The smaller details, like the dark rosewood bridge, intricate rosette, neck joint cap and carved decorative headstock contribute to an overall sense of understated class: this is a gorgeous instrument. Needless to say, we don't get many top tier Spanish-made guitars on the second hand market here in Australia, so this is a really fun find.
