(SOLD) Yamaha SC700 Super Combinator White 1977
Yamaha SC700 Super Combinator, white, made in Japan 1977. This is awesome, I'm certainly fond of it. The Combinator (can confirm: definitely not a word) series launched in 1977 and offered a pretty innovative take on some more classic designs. The body is basically a Strat shape, but it's got a hardtail bridge and a wonky headstock. The electronics are where it gets fun: it's got an on-off-on switch for each pickup, so you can turn them on or off and reverse the phase. That means all the options are there: Tele middle tones, Mustang out-of-phase lo-fi snaps, dub-style tones, Strat in-between position tones... heck, it's raining options. The blade style single coils are great too, they're a whisker hotter than a standard Strat style pickup but offer excellent clarity and brightness to boot. The standard of build on these vintage Yamaha guitars is always very high, so this feels great in the hands too. The woodwork and finish are very tidy and all the hardware is super sturdy. This is a rewarding guitar, it'll make one of you oddballs out there very pleased indeed.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some dimples on the end, bottom edge and front, nothing nasty. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples, rub wear and scuffs on the back only. The back has some dents near the neck plate, top horn and elbow area, as well as widespread dimples and light scuffs. The sides have some surface scratches in the elbow area and dimples near the jack and on the bottom horn. The front has a chip in the lacquer only between the neck and neck pickup, dimples around the knobs, behind the bridge and in the elbow area and some play scuffs on both horns. Overall: very good condition (8/10).
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. The frets have some normal wear including some pitting, but they're pretty even with no major buzz issues, 6/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 10/46 Moonshiners strings.
