(ARCHIVE) Yamaha SG-RR Standard Wine Red 1989

- Guitarchives
Yamaha SG-RR Standard, made in Japan 1989, wine red. This is a quirkly little anomaly; a short-lived Yamaha twist on the Gibson Les Paul Special. You get some Gibson flavoured appointments: two P-90 style pickups, a 24.75" scale, basic electronics, the double cut shape. You also get some classic Yamaha pragmatism: as string through body six saddle bridge, a 12" radius, sleek headstock, a belly carve. It's super light and lively in the hands; a dream on the shoulders and a breeze on the fingers. The pickups dole out the flavour: the neck is gooey and thick with a gut-punch attack and a round, warm fatness; the bridge is snappy and precise with a creamy gravy goodness through the midrange.. the middle position is a perfect little mix. It's certainly got a cool understated classic rock look; clean lines and dark cherry are a sure winner. This is a charming and overachieving little weirdo, just like you, right?

The front is pretty clean, just some damage to the knobs, some tiny dimples behind the bridge and on the shoulder and some light play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: good condition (6/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Frets have some minor wear, they're looking great; 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/46s.
