(ARCHIVE) Yamaha SGV300 Flying Samurai Pearl Green 2000

Yamaha SGV300, pearl green, made in Taiwan 2000. The 'Flying Samurai' line of guitars launched in 1966 and were among Yamaha's first ever solid body electric offerings. Surf rock was huge in Japan at the time, so local guitar builders were offering wacky shapes and twangy tone to ride the wave. This example is a reissue model made in 2000, which lends it some modern conveniences like a better bridge and tuners. The second tone-knob is a blender, so you can get humbucker, single coil or Strat-style two single coil tones in middle or bridge position with the roll of the thumb. Plugged in, this delivers some of that classic Mustang-ish punch and slap, but with a focus and power more akin to a Tele Deluxe. The pearl green finish hits the stylish curves of the body just right, it's a gorgeous vintage-futuristic look that gets me a little hot under the collar frankly. Cool cool cool cool cool cool.
