(SOLD) Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster Sherwood Green 2005
Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster, Sherwood green, made in USA 2005. It's easy to fall in love with this one. The American Vintage reissue (or AVRI for short) line launched in the 80s to critical and popular acclaim: finally, proper vintage style Fender guitars were back. The Jazzmaster model in the line is a lot harder to come by than the Strats, Teles or Jags: we've had several of each of the others through, but this is the first Jazzy we've managed to score. It's a gorgreous thing in the hands. The neck is a typical slim 60s style profile, so it's rounded in the back with a vintage style radius, not too wide and not too thin... just right. The quartersawn maple neck is a gorgeous toasty golden colour and the rosewood board is particularly lush dark and streaky piece... yum. The body is a light and super resonant piece of alder; it's perfectly balanced and very loud unplugged. There's a couple of marks and chips in the finish as described below, but the fun thing about that is you can see exactly how thin the 'thin skin' nitro lacquer finish really is: oh boy, it's very thin. That definitely contributes to the tone: there's a gorgeous articulate openness and snap to it. The pickups are feature a 'vintage correct' pancake style wind, so that lends the top end a stunning vibrance and clarity and keeps your dynamics at the forefront. On the rhythm circuit, you can dial in a super juicy, warm gooey tone, perfect with a little fuzz and reverb, while the lead circuit offers a fresh suite of chiming, bright delights. If it sounds like I'm a bit smitten with this one, that's because I am: this is a superb instrument. Plus, the Sherwood green is a rare finish and looks criminally gorgeous. Just do it, you want it.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock has a couple of minor marks on the end and bottom edge. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, just a few minor marks on the back and some play wear on the edge of the board. The back has a couple of dimples near the belly carve, as well as widespread light scuffs around the whole body. The sides have a few marks: dimples on the top horn, a decent chip and a few scuffs and dimples in the elbow area, a dimple near the rear strap pin, a decent chip near the jack and some scuffs around that corner, plus a minor chip and some finish-only cracks around the neck pocket. The front is pretty tidy, just a dimple in the elbow area and widspread light scuffs around the body. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. Frets . All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look freshly dressed and polished and are in pretty good shape, 8/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 11/49 Moonshiners strings.
